Parent Representative to the G/T Education Program Advisory Committee for our school-based G/T Education Program.
It is essential that our school community has well-informed parents who understand the G/T Education Program goals, delivery model, and the various opportunities that exist for advanced-level students of various talent areas. As one of our school’s G/T Parent Representatives, you can help with this important role!
G/T Parent Academies are seminars that feature speakers on topics of interest to parents of advanced-level learners. The G/T Advisory Steering Committee sponsors these sessions in collaboration with the G/T Education Program. ALL interested parents and community members are invited to attend these!
The role of school – based G/T Parent Representative(s) is as follows:
- Assist the G/T Resource Teacher(s) by being a positive voice for the G/T Education Program and the needs of advanced-level learners at the school.
- Assist the G/T Resource Teacher(s) in communicating information about the countywide G/T Parent Academies and other school-based G/T Education Program sponsored events (such as G/T Parent Orientations, Enrichment Fairs, G/T showcase events, Summer Institutes, etc.) by inviting other parents in our school community.
- Volunteer to serve on a G/T Advisory Committee subcommittee, if interested, to develop a G/T Parent Representative Handbook and communication materials. The subcommittee structure enables G/T Parent Representatives to share ideas and provide suggestions for improving G/T Education Program communication to parents, educators, and community members. Other subcommittees include Diversity, Educator Recognition Program, or you can volunteer to assist the G/T Parent Academy Coordinators.
- Communicate information from the G/T Advisory Steering Committee that is of general interest to parents and to share information with other parents in the community. Information will be shared online through hcpssnews.org. G/T Parent Representatives are encouraged to select the G/T Education Program (school) in their profile when they enroll in hcpssnews.org.
